Hearing aids and health insurance: what does your cover pay?

Hearing aids and health insurance: what does your cover pay?

In short

Statutory health insurers pay a Festbetrag (fixed amount) per ear for hearing aids. It covers a simple, fully adequate fitting, including adjustment and aftercare. If you want more technology, you pay the difference yourself, as a monthly amount in the subscription or once when you buy. If you are privately insured, you submit a cost estimate. We handle the paperwork.

The route to cost coverage

  1. ENT practice: your doctor diagnoses the hearing loss and writes a prescription for hearing aids. Without it, the insurer does not pay.
  2. Hearing test with us: you bring the prescription to us. We measure your hearing again in detail and discuss what you need in daily life. You can also take the hearing test beforehand, without a prescription; then you already know where you stand before the doctor's appointment.
  3. Comparative fitting: we show you at least one device without an own share and alternatives from the higher classes. That is the rule, and it is fair.
  4. Trial wearing: you wear the devices for several weeks in daily life, at home, at the office, in a restaurant.
  5. Decision and billing: we bill your insurer directly. You only pay your share.

Bring the prescription to us promptly. It should reach the hearing care professional within four weeks.

Statutory insurance: Festbetrag and co-payment

The Festbetrag

Statutory insurers pay a fixed amount per ear. The amount is set by the GKV-Spitzenverband (the national association of statutory health insurers). It is several hundred euros per ear, somewhat less for the second ear, higher for children and adolescents. We tell you the current amount in the consultation; it is also on every one of our cost estimates.

The statutory co-payment

As a member of statutory insurance, you pay 10 € per hearing aid, so 20 € for both ears. If you are exempt from co-payments, you do not pay this either.

What you get for the Festbetrag

A digital hearing aid that meets the medical requirements: several frequency channels, noise reduction, feedback protection. These devices are better than their reputation. We fit them just as carefully as any other, and for quiet listening situations they are enough for many people.

More technology, your own share

If you want to follow conversations better in a restaurant, at your club or at work, you choose a higher class and pay the difference to the Festbetrag yourself. With us these are five classes from Basis+ to First Class, in the subscription from 34 € per ear per month after the insurer's contribution is deducted, or once when you buy. What the individual classes can do and what they cost is on our pricing page.

Privately insured

With private insurance, everything depends on your plan: some reimburse the full costs up to a maximum amount, others a percentage, basic plans follow the Festbetrag of the statutory insurers. We prepare a cost estimate that you submit to your insurer before buying. That way you know beforehand what comes back.

What comes after the purchase

  • Aftercare, cleaning, function check: free of charge with us, for the life of the device.
  • Repairs: free within the warranty period, afterwards the insurer contributes a share. In the subscription, repairs are included.
  • Batteries: if you buy, adults pay for batteries themselves; for children and adolescents the insurer covers a flat rate. In the subscription, batteries or rechargeable battery are included in the price.
  • New devices: after six years you are entitled to the Festbetrag again, earlier if your hearing gets worse.

What we take off your hands

The cost estimate, billing with the insurer, follow-up questions, and the objection if an insurer rejects a service. You bring the prescription and your insurance card, we do the rest, in Glückstadt, Horst, Wedel, Barmstedt and Itzehoe.

The next step

Do not wait until hearing loss noticeably limits your daily life. The earlier you act, the better the results.

A question about advertising and reviews

If you come to us through one of our ads, or want to see the reviews widget in the bottom-left corner, we ask for your permission first. If you agree, we keep a note of which ad it was in a cookie (ea_attr) for 90 days and load the Google tag from Google Ads. It sets its own cookies (_gcl_…) and tells Google when you book an appointment, send an inquiry or tap one of our phone numbers, so we can see which ads work. Google does not learn your name or contact details, and we do not use it for personalised advertising.

We also then load our partner ProvenExpert GmbH's reviews widget directly from their servers. This can send your IP address to ProvenExpert and let them set a cookie.

If you decline, nothing changes for you except that the reviews widget stays hidden. You can change your choice at any time under “Cookie settings” at the bottom of the page.
